Senspex Awarded SBIR Phase I Grant

Senspex has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grant in the amount of $100,000 from the National Science Foundation. The project, entitled Optical Mode Conversion for Chemical and Biological Sensing and Analysis, is for the investigation of nanoscale methods for guiding the distribution of light in micro-optical photochemical sensors.

The results of the research will be applicable to hazardous chemical monitoring devices for security and environmental applications. The project represents a further enhancement in the company’s Nanostructure Enhanced Water Testing Technology (NEWTT) program, which also encompasses other SBIR-supported research projects.

Senspex, Inc. is a privately held company engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services. The company provides custom photonic technology solutions for security and surveillance including thermal imaging/IR camera solutions and customized security management systems, as well as, sensors for detection applications which include portable chemical identification instruments. Senspex technologies focus on chemical and biological sensing systems, homeland security, military, first responders, environmental compliance, and related markets.

The purpose of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is to harness the innovative talents of the nation’s small technology companies to promote U.S. technological competitiveness. The program funds early-stage R&D projects, which broaden scientific knowledge and have the potential for commercialization in private sector and government markets.
